GaherisWiki:Class Pages

From GaherisWiki

Contents

Introduction

One of the best potential uses of the Gaheris Wiki is to be able to have class guides written by Gaheris players with Gaheris and PvE in mind. Someone that has actually played the class to 50, in the Gaheris enviornment will be much more helpful then simply reading off a list of spells and styles, or even a list of specs. The purpose of this document is to help people get started and feel comfortable writing class guides on this wiki.

Do I need to read this document? No! If you want to feel free to dive right in, go to a class page. If nothing is there write up anything you want about the class! Nothing that you do will break anything, and its very easy for someone else to come and help format the article later. Right now the most important thing is content. Getting people to contribute their knowledge to the Wiki to create a resource that will benefit both players new to Gaheris and ones who have been here for ages.

If you are unfamiliar with Wiki formatting and want to learn more I suggest reading Help:Editing.

Getting Started

As its easier to learn by doing, we're going to create a class page here. Or at least I'll create a class page and you get to follow along. ;) So we're going to create a page on the up and coming Ninja class.

When writing a class page there's some basic information that should be on the page. You aren't required to write all of it yourself, whatever you want to contribute is good, as any formatting issues can easily be fixed by myself or anyone else who is so inclined. Ideally every class page would have the following:

  • An Introduction with a brief description and possibly some lore about the class.
  • Basic Class Information (The Stat Box)
  • Character Creation
    • How to spend the initial points
    • What races are available
    • Advantages and disadvantages of each race, not necessarily the "best" race, although one might hands down be the best.
    • Which Attributes are the most (and least) helpful for the class.
  • Specializations
    • What Specs are available to the class
    • What the effect of each spec is.
    • Basic spells/skills available in each spec
  • Suggested Specializations
  • Special Things about that Class
  • Comparison to other classes in the game.

The Introduction

We start off each section with a section header with the name of the section in tags. In the case of the Description it looks like this: == Description ==

The Introduction should give a basic idea what the class is about. You can include some lore about the class in this section if you like. It should minimally have a brief description defining what the class is and what it does, it also can help to compare it to similar classes, or ones with similar skills. Ie. On the Warden's page you might include that the Theurgist and Runemaster are the other PBT classes in the game.

The Ninja is the fourth Rogue class of Albion. They are in fact Pirates that trained in mystic arts in a far away land that have only come back to scourge the shores of Albion. It is for this reason that the Ninja gets a bonus whenever it is near a shoreline. The Ninja is often compared favorably to the Infiltrator, Shadowblade and Nightshade because not only are they "much much cooler," but Ninjas get the much coveted Evade Everything ability that gives them a 100% Evade rate.

The Stat Box

The Stat Box is the table on the right side of page on all (or should be all) of the Class Pages. It is placed there by the use of a the Class template which you can see here: Template:Class. Most of this information can be copied off of Mythic's Class Pages.

As a forewarning, this section is rather heavy and filled with technical details. If you're not the type that likes to concern yourself feel free to skip onto the next section.

The class template works that by calling it and specifying the parameters it fills in those parameters and places it on the page. You call the Template by placing the name after a double bracket ( {{Class ) and seperate each parameter with a pipe ( | ). Commonly each parameter will be put on a seperate line for readibility, but it is not mandatory. The order of the parameters doesn't matter but all of the parameters should be provided. The Class Template currently uses the following parameters:

classname
This is the name of the class. In this case, Ninja. (ie. classname=Ninja)
nicknames
are any nicknames for the class, or anything someone might commonly hear the class referred to as, if you can think of anything simply use the class's name. nicknames=Ninj, Pirate, Pirate Ninja, Overpowered Alb Class
mythclid
is the article number of the Class's page on the Herald. This is the number after "id=" in the url. Seeing as Mythic has yet to make a page for the Ninja class (I wonder why), I will use the id for the Infiltrator page, 22. mythclid=22
realm
Realm is the realm the class belongs to, it determines the color of the shading on the Class Stat Box. The valid choices are "alb", "mid" and "hib". If anything else is chosen there will simply be no shading. In this case we use realm=alb
pts
is the multiplier on the number of spec points the class gets per level, ie. pts=2.5x
baseclass
is the starting base class, if the Class doesn't have any (ie. Vampiir) then simply list which class they count as for Subclassing purposes. baseclass=Rogue
armor
is the highest absorb armor that the class can equip. Most Ninja wear black cloth robes to help them sneak around out night, so we're going to say armor=Cloth
shield
is the largest size shield the class can equip, regardless of whether or not they can use it. CL3 Small Shield does not count here, so if the class gets no shield otherwise simply say "None". In the case of the Ninja we're going to go with a small shield, as anything larger will restrict his ninjalike movement! ie. shield=Small
races
are the races that can become the class, crosslinked with the race's page. Haven't you always thought it would be cool to have a Ninja in a kilt? So have I. That's why I think the races that should be able to come Ninjas are Britons, Highlanders and Saracens. races=Briton, Highlander, Saracen
specs
is all the available lines the Class can put specialization points in. Ideally these should be crosslinked to their Spec pages. Our Ninja Class can spec in Slash, Thrust, Nunchucks, Shiruken, Stealth and Piracy. We link these as their stat pages so the parameter looks like: specs=Slash, Thrust, Nunchuks, Shiruken, Stealth and Piracy.
Abilities
are the things that are granted to a character automatically at a certain level, or in a couple rare cases, a specific effective spec. (ie. Climb Walls is given at 25 Effective Stealth). They similarly are also crosslinked with their Abilities pages. Abilities that have multiple levels of the same ability typically are all linked to the same page (ie. Evade I-V, Protect I-III) For our Ninja this is going to be: abilities=Sprint, Tireless (15) ...
primary, secondary and tertiary
are the primary, secondary and tertiary attributes that go up with level for the class. They should be referenced in their three letter abbreviation for (ie. Str, Pie, Cha). 'primary=Dex|secondary=Qui|tertiary=Con
ml1 and ml2
are the two ML paths available to the class. ml1=Spymaster|ml2=Battlemaster

Finally the template call is finished with two closing braces. ( }} )

The final wiki code would look something like this, the box it produces is in the right:

Ninja

Guild:{guild}

Don't worry if you didn't quite get all of that. It's a bit complicated and there's others that can help you with it or do it for you.

Character Creation

Considering the gap between what attributes are listed as primary, secondary and tertiary, outlining what Attributes are actually needed can be one of the most important things on the page.

You should mention which Attributes are most important to the class and why. Also detail what races are available and what advantages or disadvantages different races have.

Listing the stats for the races is now super easy. Templates have been set up for every single race, all you have to do is call the template with the name of the Race on the page and it will list the race's stats. Also at the top you should use the race header template, (named "Raceh"). None of these templates have any parameters, all you need to do is call them like such:

<center>
Raceh
Briton
Highlander
Saracen
</center>

Can't be any easier!

So this is what the Character Creation info for the Ninja class might look like:

What stats you choose at Character creation depends on what type of Ninja you're planning on being. If you intend to use Slash weapons it would be best to put points into STR, DEX and CON, otherwise you should put points into DEX, CON and QUI.

Highlander is a good race for a Slash Ninja, with its higher Strength it also benefits from the highest Constitution. Saracens, with their high Dex make a great choice for a Thrust, Nunchucks or Shiruken Ninja.

Specializations

In this section it is best to list all of the lines that the class can put spec points in and explain what they do for that class. Ideally it should also be crosslinked to the Spec pages, but don't worry about copying basic information, such as what Attributes effect a weapon line. Also don't bother copying spell statistics here either, that should go into the spec pages. Usually its best to simply mention what spells are in those lines, or in the case or Weapon spec lines give a few notable styles.

Slash increases the Ninja's Slash weapon skill. The Ninja gets some cool styles in Slash that no other classes get like [35] Seppuku and [50] Behead. which can kill a monster in one hit if it goes off correctly. However Slash is entirely Strength based which makes it less desirable for a Ninja.

Thrust is the typical Rogue line. There is no special styles in this line so it isn't used as often.

Nunchucks is the Ninja's unique weapon line. Unlike Slash or Thrust Nunchucks are all two-handed, so they can not be used in conjunction with a shield. However as Ninjas can not spec in Shield it is often preferred.

Shiruken is the Ninja's ranged attack line. While Shiruken ammo can be expensive it is one of the most damaging ranged attack lines.

Stealth is a fairly typical stealth line, however noting the Ninja's better skill compared to other Rogue classes the Ninja is granted the ability to climb anything in the game. This gives them an advantage no other class has, and even on Gaheris many Ninjas choose to spec in Stealth to get this ability.

Meditation is the more traditional Ninja spec line that focus on inward concentration to improve agility and speed.

Piracy truly unlocks the power of the Pirate Ninja! With this you get powerful Swashbuckling spells that let you more easily pillage villages on the coast.

Suggested Specializations

All classes have more then one way to spec the class and get power out of it. While you don't have to list all of them, it is best to list the specs that you have played and the ones you enjoyed the most and thought were the best. It often is best to double check your specs in the Character Builder first to make sure they are correct.

50 Slash/41 Stealth/50 Piracy The Pirate Ninja spec! You can terrorize all along New Frontiers with this spec. People will fear your name!

39 Nunchuck/42 Shiruken/41 Stealth/50 Meditation Classic Ninja spec. Can't go wrong with tradition.

Class Concerns

This is typically where you'd address various issues in playstyle or utility of the class, particularly relevant to Gaheris. Often it is titled "PvE" utility. In many cases it will also address issues of certain specs, like perhaps a Battle Bard. However it typically is optional, and up to the person writing it.

Class Comparisons

Comparisons to other classes within the Class's realm, and even more importantly, to Classes from other realms can be the most important part of the Class page. Many players come to Gaheris from other servers and are unfamiliar with other realms. Being able to compare the class to one they are more familiar with can help them understand better. Also many players who haven't played on Gaheris aren't used to comparing different realms' classes side to side.

So... Curious what the final Ninja page looks like? It's right here.
